    St. John Receives Honors in Cleanest City Contest, Promotes Beautification Efforts

    St. John the Baptist Parish - Parish President Natalie Robottom and the Parish Council are proud to announce that St. John competed in the annual Cleanest City Contest (CCC) for the second time in parish history and was selected to advance to the State competition. The towns of Wallace, Garyville and Reserve will be judged in May after winning at the district level. LaPlace and Edgard were chosen as runner ups. 

    The Cleanest City Contest is sponsored by the Louisiana Garden Club Federation (LGCF) with the goal of increasing civic pride and improving the visual appeal of towns and cities throughout the state. Each spring, federation members tour various parishes throughout the region scoring the municipalities on cleanliness and community involvement to promote beautification.

    Judges for the 2017 District competition traveled to St. John Parish recently to tour five designated areas. "The judges were impressed with the general condition of your streets and ditches, residential areas, municipal buildings and grounds, recreational facilities and parks, and with the professionalism of of your staff," said Joe Baucum, LGCF District II CCC Chairman. "From our perspective, we certainly enjoyed visiting your parish and were very impressed with the growth and progress being accomplished," he added.

    State judging will take place in May when judges will again tour the selected areas of St. John for cleanliness and beautification. Residents and businesses are encouraged to beautify their properties in advance. "Beautification is a community effort and we ask residents and business owners to help us with this initiative by participating in the upcoming Clean Sweep event that will be held on April 29, 2017," said Parish President Robottom.

    Sponsored by the Keep St. John Beautiful Committee, this event is a community effort to clean up St. John and make it a more beautiful place to live, work and play. The event will kick off at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 29 at Thomas F. Daley Memorial Park. To register your group, please visit sjbparish.com or call 652-9569.
