RRCC joins educators, businesses, government leaders, in collaborative regional workforce development agreement
LaPlace, La. — A landmark event took place on Tuesday, May 2, as educational institutions including K-12 superintendents and the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, along with parish presidents, government and business leaders, and the River Region Chamber of Commerce, joined together in an official memorandum of understanding for regional workforce development. The signing, which took place at South Central Louisiana Technical College- Reserve Campus, included the presidents of St. John, St. James and St. Charles parishes; school superintendents of the three parishes; the River Region Workforce Development board; and the Louisiana Community and Technical College System.
The group will formulate a concise set of core principles that will lead and guide the Chamber in its efforts to further the region’s growth. The collaboration will also develop a set of specific goals and actions needed, including bridging the gap between employers and community; and, forming a defined set of best practices for workforce development. “Each person and entity represented brings a unique and valuable insight to the table.
The River Region Chamber of Commerce is honored to lead in this historic commitment toward the future of our region. Together—that’s how we can make it happen,” said Chassity McComack, executive director, River Region Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber’s Workforce Development committee has sought the expertise and insight of Louisiana Calling, a nonprofit organization whose skills, resources and strategic planning are revolutionizing workforce initiatives throughout Louisiana. “This is a very big day for our region as we join together to work toward a better future,” said Annette Wray, Chairman, River Region Chamber of Commerce. “As the first chamber in our state to partner with Louisiana Calling for regional workforce development, we are excited to collaborate and bring awareness for the careers that are available, ultimately providing invaluable avenues for success to our future workforce and families.”
